Babies at 10 weeks

We are getting closer and closer to the second trimester (13 weeks)!  I think that I am starting to get a little bit of a baby bump.  Not quite enough to take belly pictures yet, but getting close.  I will probably take my first belly pic at 12 weeks...maybe 13.

I have felt considerably better the last 3 days or so.  Not back to 100% yet, but maybe 75%.  My total weight loss is now 5 lbs, but I am eating like crazy.  I have pretty much cut out all sugar and I am eating better.  I'm not dieting in any way (of course!), but I think that naturally when you take someone, like myself, who LOVES sugar (cokes mostly) and they cut those out of their diet, they are likely to lose weight.  Plus, like I said, it's very normal to lose in the first trimester... I always have.

So, I have an appointment at my OB's office today.  I'm not sure if I will actually see the doctor today or just Ellie, the nurse.  Either way, I am hoping that we can get a peek at the babies...or at least take a listen for their heartbeats with the doppler.  I will update when I get home.  We plan on doing a little bit of school clothes shopping afterwards (the kids start school Monday!)

Ok, so on to the fun part....

The babies this week are about the length of a kumquat.  They are now being measured from head to bottom (instead of head to feet).  They are measured this way because they obviously can't stretch out in their tight quarters, so you can't measure them down to their feet until they are born.  So, their CRL (crown to rump length) is between 1-1.5 inches, and they weigh less than a 1/4 of an ounce.

Here's what babycenter.com has to say....

Though he's barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby has now completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature.  He's swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including his kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they'll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy.
If you could take a peek inside your womb, you'd spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.
In other developments: Your baby's limbs can bend now. His hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over his heart, and his feet may be long enough to meet in front of his body. The outline of his spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from his spinal cord. Your baby's forehead temporarily bulges with his developing brain and sits very high on his head, which measures half the length of his body. From crown to rump, he's about 1 1/4 inches long. In the coming weeks, your baby will again double in size — to nearly 3 inches.

Love and hugs from me and the babies!
