Babies at 20 weeks

This is such a huge pregnancy milestone.... 20 weeks!  This marks the halfway point of the typical singleton 40-week pregnancy.  We know for a fact that we won't go past 38 weeks (per my OB's protocol for twins), but it's still nice to celebrate hitting this milestone.

The babies are now moving and grooving.  I can feel them move all the time.  Baby girl moves a lot more than baby boy, but we're not surprised.  Ever since our 8 week u/s, we could tell that baby A (the girl) was more "high maintenance" than the more laid-back, baby B (the boy).  And, each subsequent u/s has shown the same thing.... the girl bouncing, stretching, and dancing (taking up more than her fair share of the room), while the boy just chills out relaxed in the background.  LOL.  Mark and Misty will have to tell me if these personality differences still hold true after they are born!  :o)

The babies are also growing, growing.  They are now measured from head to foot (instead of head to bottom).  They are now the length of a banana.

Here is what babycenter.com has to say...

Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against his torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of his head to his bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, he's measured from head to toe.)
He's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for his digestive system. He's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in his bowels, and you'll see it in his first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery).

For some more good news.... I am feeling great lately!  It is getting harder and harder to stand up off the floor or from the lying position, but other than that things are great!  LOL.   I am hoping that the babies have hit a growth spurt this past week, because all of a sudden I have gained several pounds.... for 8 lbs total!  But, that's pretty much it.  Just gestating and growing these babies.  My next appointment is in 2 weeks and we will have another growth u/s to check on the babies' sizes.

Until next time...
