M&M's embryos make great strides in size this week, growing to between 0.44 inches (1.1cm) and 0.52 inches (1.3cm) from crown to rump by the end of the week, or about the size of a small raspberry. Leg buds are starting to look like short fins, and hands and feet have a digital plate where fingers and toes will develop. The heart and lungs are becoming more developed, as are the eyes and nostrils, intestines and appendix. By now the brain and spinal cord are growing from the neural tube.
Babies are the size of a blueberry. The mini M&Ms, having doubled in size since last week, are about 1/2 inch in length.
I can't believe how much they've grown this week!
As for me. Well, it's been tough already. I have always been one of those fortunate pregnant ladies that has never experienced much in the way of "morning sickness." And, though I haven't officially gotten "sick" this time either (yet), I am feeling much sicker. I think that can be attributed to there being 2 babies baking this time. So, in a way, I am VERY thankful to be feeling so sick this time because it helps reassure me that the babies are growing strong. On the other hand....BLECH! Lol. I sleep ALOT! I wake up about 10 am and by 1 or 2 o'clock I am already taking a nap. My naps are lasting between 3 and 4 hours! And then I am ready for bed by 10 pm. Thankfully my kiddos are old enough to keep themselves fed and entertained during these first few weeks. :o)
I am still on all my meds (6 total, including the one "big" injection) but will be weaning off those soon. I should be off all meds- except the prenatal vitamin and aspirin- in about 2 weeks. Yay! We will keep an eye on my estrogen and progesterone levels before completely stopping the meds. By 9 weeks pregnant, though, it is expected that the placenta (or placentas) have taken over hormone production and that I will no longer have to take those hormones.
Next ultrasound in 10 days!
