Great Expectations...

...are things that you learn are better left checked at the door when dealing with surrogacy.  There are just too many unknowns and so much can go wrong!  I have learned that it is just better to go into every step of this with NO expectations.  I have learned to hope, wish, dream, and mostly pray.  So, with that said, I went to Houston today with no expectations. I went to Houston today hoping, wishing, praying, and even daydreaming of how my appointment would go.  I wished that I would have no cysts.  I dreamt that I would have a thick lining.  I hoped that I would have high estrogen levels.  And, I prayed that Misty's procedure to drain her cysts went exactly according to plan.

But...I expected nothing.

So, Misty arrived at Houston IVF early this morning just before Tony and I were leaving home.  As we embarked on our 4 1/2 hour drive, Misty was slowly counting backwards from 10.

10...9...8...7....

Thankfully she was sedated for her procedure.

Misty would be leaving the clinic just a couple of hours before we were to arrive, so we knew that we wouldn't get to visit this time.  (Pooey!)  By the time Tony and I arrived at the clinic at 1:00, Misty was resting comfortably at home.  Even though I was anxiously awaiting news of her procedure, I did not want to disturb her.

I was called back for my u/s and this was the moment of truth.  I have had cysts in prior medicated surrogacy cycles.  This time I wished that I would have none.  And.....

No cysts!

I dreamt that I would have a thick lining.  The u/s tech said that we were looking for a lining of about 8-10 mm thick.  I promptly told her that that would not be happening today.  I told her of how I am a low lining producer and that we were still 16 days away from transfer and that the thickest my lining has ever been is 9.9 mm.  So, I lie back and.....

14.4 mm!  (Whoa!)  Second measurement, 12.8 mm!

I was astounded!

And, I hoped that I would have high estrogen.  During my "mock cycle" (this is the practice cycle we do before the real deal) my estrogen levels were too low.   My blood was drawn, and 3 hours later, while driving home, the nurse calls and tells me my estrogen levels (they want it between 300-800).....

689!  (Whoa!)

And, lastly, I prayed that Misty's procedure went according to plan earlier that morning.  After my appointment I find our NC (nurse coordinator) and ask about Misty.  According to her, all went very well!  Phew!

So, another lesson learned today.

If there is one thing you can expect in the WWC (Wonderful World of Surrogacy)...

Expect the Unexpected!

(Next appointments:  Misty goes in on Monday and I go in on Wednesday.)
