This week the minis are about the size of a butternut squash.
This is what babycenter.com says about this week's development...
Your baby now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds (like a butternut squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. His muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is growing bigger to make room for his developing brain. To meet his increasing nutritional demands, you'll need plenty of protein, vitamins C, folic acid, and iron. And because his bones are soaking up lots of calcium, be sure to drink your milk (or find another good source of calcium, such as cheese, yogurt, or enriched orange juice). This trimester, about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited in your baby's hardening skeleton each day.
Things with the babies are going wonderfully! Me, on the other hand, well, some things could be a little better. I am generally feeling pretty good. Not too huge yet and still doing well for the most part. However, one very annoying (and now very painful) symptom has started up with a vengeance... carpal tunnel. I mentioned it in my post last week and since then it has gotten much worse. I am having A LOT of pain in my right hand at night while trying to sleep. During the day isn't as bad, but I do wear my wrist brace all day and night. Also at night, it is starting to show up in my left hand too, so I usually sleep with a brace on each hand. Night before last I woke up about 4 am in so much pain I was crying. I stayed awake for hours unable to get any kind of relief. However, last night was MUCH better. I did pretty well all night (only waking to go use the bathroom a few times) until 6 am when the pain in my hand woke me up. This time, though, after about maybe only 15 minutes or so, I was able to get back to sleep. Hopefully I have more nights like last night! Most of the problem too, is that it is in my right hand. So, everything I do (brushing teeth, putting on make up, writing/typing, blow drying hair, eating, etc) causes a lot of pain and discomfort. I am going to bring it up to my OB and see if there is anything else I can do to get some relief.
I have gained a little more weight this week for a total of 21 lbs. My weight gain is doing well! Not too little and not too much. At this point, I can expect to gain about 1-2 pounds per week. I read that the babies are gaining about an ounce per day each at this point. So, in just a week's time, I will gain about 14 oz a week (almost a pound) just from the babies alone. However, the last 2 days (since Christmas night) I have been having some swelling also (that's too be expected), so I am also likely gaining from water retention. (Yep, Baelyn now says I have cankles... and she's right. You can no longer see my ankles a lot of times!)
That's about it. I have my 29 week check up, growth scan, and hospital tour tomorrow which Mark & Misty get to come to also. So excited to see them! I also can't wait to see the babies. I am hoping that they are starting to migrate into the head-down position. We shall see!
I know it's a little late, but Macy and MJ hope that you all had a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!
