Babies at 16 weeks

Hello all.  Well, the weeks seem like they are just flying by!  I think I may have hit a growth spurt... my belly is getting bigger!

The babies this week are the length of avocados (YUM...I LOVE avocados!)

Here is what babycenter.com has to say about the babies' development this week:

Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of his scalp has begun, though his locks aren't recognizable yet. He's even started growing toenails. And there's a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.

It is getting easier and easier for me to find the babies' heartbeats on my home fetal doppler.  It is such a lovely sound to hear those fast-paced thumps!  I try to send Mark and Misty recordings of their heartbeats once or twice a week....at least when the babies are cooperating and not swimming away!  :o)  I am also starting to feel the fluttery-type movements more often.  They may be just a tiny bit stronger, but still, sometimes I have to wonder... baby or gas bubbles?  LOL.  Oh...and my headaches have finally gone away!  Hopefully for good!

I feel much better this week.  I have definitely gained some weight!  From my starting weight at embryo transfer to today, I have gained 3 lbs. (which is 7 lbs total if you include the weight I lost in the first trimester).  The belly is very noticeable, and people are starting to ask how far along I am.  It kind of shocks people when I answer, because I am measuring larger, of course, since there are 2 babies.  I have to quickly back up my answer...

"So, how far along are you now?"
"16 weeks."
(quick look of shock)
"But, but...I am pregnant with twins!"
"Ohhhhh!" :o)

Less than 2 weeks before we find out the genders!!!

I have been reading the blog from the first post to now. WOW! I can't believe we are here. From the first crazy cycle, to the sesame seeds and now avacados! So many ups and downs. What a ride it has been---and will continue to be! We are head over heels in love with these babies, and with YOU! I can't begin to thank you enough or to tell you how much this means to us. I can't put into words what your friendship means to me. We love you! We are eternally grateful and can't wait for the day we bring these m&m's home!

I know what you mean. I was just thinking TODAY about how far we have come! I was thinking about our "dating" phase, our first cycle, negative beta, the poor grading on these two babies the moring of transfer, and how they have now grown into precious little ones! I still can't believe sometimes that we have actually made it here. I am still so honored to be carrying and loving and nuturing these babies until the day they make their arrival into this world and into your arms. I love you both like family and can't wait to watch you become your own family!
